Getting Started

What is RateParity?

RateParity is a free calculator that compares contractor day rates with permanent salaries across European countries. It shows true take-home pay, employer costs, and helps you understand the real difference between the two.

How do I get started?

Just visit our homepage and jump into the calculator. No signup required. Enter a salary or day rate, and we'll calculate the comparison instantly.

Do I need to create an account?

No. The free calculator works without any account. Your scenarios are saved in your browser. If you want Pro features like unlimited saved scenarios, you can sign up for Pro.

Is RateParity really free?

Yes. The core calculator is completely free, no tricks. Pro is optional at £25/month for advanced features.

Using the Calculator

How accurate are the calculations?

We use country-specific tax packs from published sources, but results are estimates. Tax laws change frequently and vary by individual circumstance. Always verify with a tax advisor before making decisions.

Can I change the assumptions?

Yes. Every input—salary, day rate, pension, benefits, leave days, IR35 status—is fully editable. This lets you model your exact situation.

Why do contractor and salary results differ so much?

Contractors include unpaid time (holidays, sick leave), business expenses (insurance, equipment, accountant fees), and lose employer-provided benefits. Salaries hide the true employer cost through taxes and contributions.

How do I compare my specific situation?

Enter your current salary or the day rate you're offered. Edit any assumptions that don't match your situation (pension amount, benefits value, number of leave days, etc.). The calculator updates instantly.

What does IR35 mean?

IR35 is a UK tax rule that can reclassify contractor income as employment income, increasing tax. Check the IR35 toggle in the calculator to see how it affects your take-home.

Can I save my calculations?

Yes. Free users can save up to 5 scenarios locally. Pro users get unlimited saves. Your data stays on your device—we don't store it on our servers.

How do I share my scenario?

Click the share button to get a shareable link. Recipients can view your calculation and edit assumptions.

What export formats are available?

Free: PDF and CSV. Pro: Advanced exports with branding options.
